Project-based learning! Also known as interdisciplinary units is a great way to increase efficacy in and interaction with students. They also allow for each of the multiple intellegences to be explored in a way that is (or could be) practical to the real world. This video explores this idea and shows not only how it works, but also where it orignated from and how it was implemented in their community. The one unmentioned attribute (in this video) was the buy-in from the administration/district personell and the tie-in to the curriculum. There are some districts that believe in following the rules so specifically that it removes a ton of hope for this type of “out of the box” thinking.
Do you feel that your or your child’s school/district will be open to implementing Project Based Learning? What are your thoughts?
